IMMIGRATION & NATIONALITY
DEPARTMENT
FACT SHEET
FURTHER LEAVE TO REMAIN APPLICATIONS
As a result of new regulations
which came into force in April
2004 where an individual is in
the UK and has applied for a Work
Permit or Highly Skilled Migrant
Status, they also need to apply
for Further Leave to Remain which
is a separate Home Office application.
The applicants will not be able
to commence work under their new
Work Permit or as a Highly Skilled
Migrant until that further leave
to remain has been granted with
the current exception of existing
Work Permit holders.
Due to the current delays in processing
these applications, we usually
file the further leave to remain
applications on behalf of our clients
at the same time as making the
applications for either the Work
Permit or highly skilled migrant
status.
